Teeth Cleaning Varna
Professional teeth cleaning is the cornerstone of dental health. Unlike daily home cleaning, in-office hygiene removes tartar, hardened plaque and surface stains that your toothbrush and floss cannot reach. Dr. Yordanova recommends a clean every 6 months to keep teeth and gums healthy.
What does professional cleaning include?
The professional hygiene procedure includes:
- Ultrasonic scaling – a specialised device breaks down and removes mineralised deposits (tartar) from tooth surfaces and below the gum line.
- Air Flow polishing – a jet of air, water and polishing pearls removes surface stains from coffee, tea, smoking and dark foods.
- Final polishing – smoothing tooth surfaces to slow down the build-up of new plaque.
- Check-up and instruction – Dr. Yordanova reviews the result and provides personalised home care advice.
Dental plaque vs. tartar
- Dental plaque – a soft, colourless bacterial biofilm that builds up on teeth daily. Removed by regular brushing and flossing.
- Tartar – mineralised (hardened) plaque that a toothbrush cannot remove. It builds up over time above and below the gum line and is the main cause of gingivitis and periodontitis.
- Only professional ultrasonic scaling can effectively remove tartar.
How often should you have a clean?
The standard recommendation is every 6 months. For patients who build up tartar faster, or who have gingivitis or periodontitis, cleaning every 3–4 months may be recommended. Dr. Yordanova will advise the optimal interval after examination.
Benefits of regular professional cleaning
- Prevention of gingivitis and periodontitis
- Fresher breath and brighter teeth
- Early detection of cavities and gum problems
- Longer life for teeth, crowns and bridges
- Reduced risk of cardiovascular complications linked to periodontitis
Frequently Asked Questions
Is teeth cleaning painful?
The procedure is virtually painless with healthy gums. Patients with sensitive gums or deeper pockets may feel mild discomfort. A topical anaesthetic gel can be applied if needed for greater comfort.
What is the difference between home and professional cleaning?
Home brushing and flossing removes soft plaque. Professional ultrasonic cleaning is the only way to remove hardened tartar that home tools cannot reach.
Is professional cleaning covered by health insurance?
NHIF covers one annual cleaning in the presence of gingivitis. Please contact us for details.
Will my teeth be whiter after cleaning?
Cleaning removes surface stains so teeth will look brighter – but not to the same extent as professional whitening. If you want whitening, Dr. Yordanova will advise you on the right method.
Should children have professional cleaning?
Yes – from around age 6. For children the emphasis is more on hygiene education, fluoride application and fissure sealants.
