Dentures Varna

A dental denture is a removable prosthetic construction that replaces missing teeth and supporting tissues, restoring chewing function, smile aesthetics and quality of life. Dr. Yordanova is a specialist in prosthodontics with extensive experience in fabricating individual denture constructions – from partial to full dentures. We use materials from leading European manufacturers.

Types of dental dentures

The choice of denture depends on the number of missing teeth, available bone and gum tissue, general health and the patient's preferences. Dr. Yordanova will advise and recommend the most suitable solution after a thorough examination.

  • Partial acrylic denture – a removable construction for several missing teeth. Made from high-quality acrylic individually adapted to the jaw shape. Affordable, easy to repair and quick to fabricate.
  • Full (complete) denture – a full removable denture for complete tooth loss in the upper or lower jaw. Restores aesthetics, chewing function and normal speech. Can be conventional or immediate (placed directly after extractions).
  • Cast metal (cobalt-chrome) denture – a partial denture with a metal framework and acrylic teeth. Thinner, more stable and longer-lasting than a purely acrylic denture. The preferred choice for patients seeking comfort and longevity.
  • Flexible (thermoplastic) denture – made from soft, hypoallergenic plastic with no metal clasps. Extremely thin palate for maximum comfort. Aesthetic and discreet – clasps match the colour of the gums. Ideal for patients with acrylic or metal allergies.
  • Immediate (temporary) denture – placed on the same day as tooth extractions so the patient is never without teeth during healing. Serves as a transitional solution while the permanent construction is being fabricated.
  • Implant-supported overdenture – a removable or conditionally removable denture anchored to dental implants via special attachments. Provides maximum stability and comfort – significantly better than a conventional denture.

How is a denture made?

The process involves several appointments over 2–4 weeks:

  • First appointment: examination, X-ray, jaw impressions and determination of the correct bite relationship.
  • Second appointment: try-in of the wax model – the shape, colour and position of the teeth are reviewed and adjusted together with the patient.
  • Third appointment: fitting of the finished denture, bite check and initial adjustments for comfort.
  • Follow-up appointments: fine adjustments and adaptation – normal and recommended practice with a newly placed denture.

How long does a denture last?

The lifespan depends on the type of construction and changes in bone and gum tissue over time:

  • Acrylic dentures (partial and full) last an average of 3–5 years, after which rebasing or replacement may be needed due to bone resorption.
  • Cast metal dentures are significantly more durable – with good hygiene and regular check-ups they can last 7–10 years.
  • Flexible dentures last approximately 3–5 years as the material may change colour and flexibility over time.
  • Implant-supported overdentures have the longest lifespan and require minimal adjustments, as implants stabilise the bone and prevent resorption.

How do I care for my denture?

Proper hygiene extends the life of the denture and protects the health of the gums and remaining teeth:

  • Clean the denture after every meal with a soft brush and special denture paste or liquid soap – do not use ordinary toothpaste (it scratches acrylic).
  • Soak the denture in a cleansing solution (tablets) at least once daily.
  • Store the denture in a glass of water or cleansing solution when not being worn – do not leave it to dry out as it may warp.
  • Massage your gums with a soft brush to stimulate circulation.
  • Visit Dr. Yordanova every 6–12 months for a fit check and adjustment if needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is getting a denture painful?

The fitting itself is not painful. It is normal to feel discomfort and pressure during the first few days of adaptation. If pain is severe or lasts more than a week, an adjustment by Dr. Yordanova is required.

How much does a denture cost in Varna?

The price depends on the type (acrylic, cast metal, flexible, full) and the number of teeth. NHIF coverage may apply. Contact us for a free consultation and a personalised quote.

How quickly will I adapt to my new denture?

The adaptation period ranges from 2 to 6 weeks. Speech and chewing may feel difficult at first. Dr. Yordanova will guide you and make the necessary adjustments for maximum comfort.

Can I sleep with my denture in?

It is recommended to remove the denture before sleep. This allows the gums and bone to rest, reduces the risk of fungal infections and extends the life of the denture. Store it in a glass of water or cleansing solution overnight.

What is the difference between a cast metal and a flexible denture?

A cast metal denture has a cobalt-chrome framework – it is more stable, thinner and longer-lasting, but the metal clasps may be visible when smiling. A flexible denture is completely metal-free with gum-coloured clasps and is more aesthetic, but has a slightly shorter lifespan. Dr. Yordanova will recommend which is appropriate for your case.
